E.ON Russia Power has begun the construction of two combined-cycle gas turbine units at Surgutskaya GRES-2 power plant. Upon completion in December 2010, these units would add extra 800 MW thus making total capacity reach 5600 MW.
«This will make Surgutskaya GRES-2 one of the highest capacity thermal power plants in the world», - says Bernd Dubberstein, E.ON Russia Power Chief Operating Officer in charge of new build projects. E.ON committed to invest 19 bln roubles into Surgutskaya development. It is a part of 76-bln investment program aimed to expand OGK-4 capacities by 2400 MW to 11030 MW by 2011.
«The new units at Surgutskaya GRES-2 will be more efficient than existing capacities with lower consumption rate», - says Andrey Kitashev, OGK-4’s CEO.
Surgutskaya GRES-2, Shaturskaya GRES, Berezovskaya GRES, Smolenskaya GRES and Yayvinskaya GRES power plants are subsidiaries of OAO OGK-4. Its revenues reached 31,43 bln roubles in 2007. 76,09% of OGK-4 is owned by E.ON Russia Power, subsidiary of E.ON AG – world’s largest public energy supplier. OGK-4 covers about 6% of total electricity send out in Russia.
