Shaturskaya GRES

Branch Shaturskaya GRES of PJSC Unipro

(hereinafter - Shaturskaya GRES)

Shaturskaya GRES is a branch of Unipro PJSC located in the town of Shatura in the Moscow Region. Natural gas is the main fuel, however, coal, fuel oil and peat may also be used at the power plant. The total installed capacity of Shaturskaya GRES is 1,493.4 MW, while the heating capacity is 344.5 Gcal. At 2015 year end, the power plant output equals to 4.9 billion kW h, heat generation – 355,000 Gcal.

Shaturskaya GRES has over 95 years of history. On July 25, 1920 the first experimental temporary 5 MW power plant was commissioned which supplied electric power to the near-by peatery and served as a testing base for the rational burning of peat. The temporary station existed till the year 1926, operating under the maximum load in winter season.

Design development work under the project of construction of continuously operating power plant named “Shaturskaya Regional Electric Power Plant” started in 1920. It is one of the first power plants constructed according to the GOELRO plan (State Commission for Electrification of Russia).

Construction of the new 400 MW CCGT power unit started in quarter 2, 2008 under investment program of E.ON Russia JSC (Unipro PJSC – since June 2016). It was commissioned in November 2010.

The CCGT-400 at Shaturskaya GRES is the first Russian single-shaft power unit with the most powerful commercial class F gas turbine. The CCGT has an efficiency of about 56 %, exceeding the efficiency factors of all the thermal power units operating in the Russian Federation by more than a third.

With the commissioning of power unit, the rated power plant output has increased to 1,493.4 MW. Environmental friendliness of CCGT-400 unit at Shaturskaya GRES made it possible for this project to become the first Russian project approved by the United Nations Organization as Joint Implementation Project under Kyoto protocol.
