Yaivinskaya GRES Branch of Unipro PJSC steadily passes the period of maximum intensity of the spring flood. In order to prevent accidents and ensure reliable and uninterrupted operation of the power plant, a flood committee has been established and an appropriate action is implemented to discharge the spring flood and rain floods.
During the period of the peak flood discharge, a round-the-clock monitoring of the hydraulic engineering structures (HES) on the Yaiva River (water intakes, drainage devices, etc.) and other facilities operated by the Branch that may be affected by flood waters is carried out to ensure timely response. The inflow and water level in the upper pool of the Yaiva River are continuously monitored. The peak flood discharge started on 8 May as the ambient temperature increased abruptly. The water level in the upper pool was 131.1 m on 14 May (the permissible level is 132.8 m). Two of the three sectoral shutters installed on the dam are open to the maximum (the throughput capacity of the stutters is 1,580 m3/s), one shutter is 80% open. The level in the down pool is 129.15 m, it has dropped by 55 cm since the flood peak period, and the decrease is slow. There are still risks of flood due to snow in the forests. The situation may also be aggravated by rains.
