On June 26, 2022, Unipro PJSC started evaluation of wind energy potential at a site in Saratov Region. The examination is conducted with the use of a wind measurement unit – a 100-meter high mast carrying wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure and humidity transmitters.
The measurements will be conducted for at least a year. The measurement results will serve as a basis for comprehensive evaluation of the site; this will include development of preliminary schematics for wind turbines and roads locations, and estimation of electric power generation volumes.
As a reminder: on June 16, 2022, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Unipro PJSC and the Government of the Saratov Region signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement an investment project in the region. Unipro PJSC selected the future power plant site as part of preparation for the selection of investment projects for construction of renewable energy generation facilities. Saratov Region Development Corporation JSC is providing assistance with implementation of the project.
The site is expected to accommodate a wind power plant of up to 120 MW capacity to be commissioned before 2035. The project will be implemented provided that it is selected in the competitive selection procedure for investment projects for construction of renewable energy generation facilities arranged by Wholesale Electricity Market Trading System Administrator JSC in the period of 2023–2030.
