Surgutskaya GRES-2 has received enhanced protection of its equipment against emergencies
An automatic fire fighting system (AFFS) of oil-filled equipment of the steam turbines is being prepared for launch at Power Unit No. 6 of Surgutskaya GRES-2 Branch of Unipro PJSC.
The AFFS comprises a container pumping station, a 10 m3 water reserve tank, block valves, compressors for sections of the pre-action system and control cabinets.
The main line has been laid from the station with fire extinguishing pipelines extending to 48 sections. The areas to be protected include: the oil-filled equipment, oil systems, turbine and forced-draft equipment.
The terminal sections of the pipelines are fitted with sprinklers with thermal locks. When the temperature rises, the lock bursts and water begins to spray. Seventeen sections have been protected with a pre-action sprinkler system.
In total, more than 2.5 kilometres of pipes of different diameters have been laid within Power Unit No. 6. In 2021, 810 MW STU Power Unit No. 2 was equipped with a similar AFFS for oil-filled equipment of the steam turbines.
