Hydraulic pressure tests of boiler equipment start at the 3rd power unit of Berezovskaya GRES

The installation of boiler equipment was completed at the construction site of the 3rd power unit of Berezovskaya GRES, Krasnoyarsk Krai. The P-67 boiler unit boasts 2,650 t/h in steam capacity, is 106 m tall and weighs over 26,500 tonnes. The unit was assembled into a single structure, suspended on special main beams and completely prepared for hydraulic pressure tests.   Tests are performed in order to check the strength and density of heating surfaces, boiler piping and common HP pipelines.  There will be two testing stages - in secondary and primary boiler paths - which will continue until the end of September.

Specialists of E.ON Engineering branch of E.ON Russia have already started performing hydraulic pressure tests of the secondary boiler path. Chemically demineralised water is supplied to the secondary boiler path, with cold and hot reheat pipelines temporarily plugged from the turbine side.  During the testing process, about 1,000 thousand tons of chemically demineralised water will be pumped into the secondary boiler path. Then, at the first testing stage, special hydraulic presses will increase pressure to 51 atmospheres (1.25 of operating pressure). A test pressure will be maintained for ten minutes and then it will be reduced to operating parameters of 40 atmospheres. After this, the boiler and piping will be inspected for leakage.  During the second stage of testing, pressure will be increased to 70 atmospheres (1.5 of operating pressure).   Hydraulic pressure tests of the HP boiler path will follow the same pattern. During the first and second stages, the test pressure will be 395 and 450 atmospheres, respectively.

After the tests and interior/exterior inspection of the boiler and HP piping are completed, they will be technically certified.

Completion of technical certification will open a considerable scope of work, including heat insulation, electric installation and preparation of the power unit’s heating hardware for start-up work related to the boiler steam-generating path.

The boiler unit of the 3rd power unit of Berezovskaya GRES is manufactured by the Podolsk Machine Building Plant and intended for operation on brown coals of the Kansk-Achinsk field in combination with the 800 MW turbine. The technical design of the third power unit’s boiler takes into account all the best practices of recent years in upgrading boilers of power units already in service. It has the upgraded fuel and burner devices, as well as an improved steam-generating path. The boiler fuel feeder is fitted with more efficient and powerful mills.

The 800 MW 3rd power unit of Berezovskaya GRES is the final project under the mandatory investment programme of E.ON Russia. After the commissioning of the power unit scheduled for 2015, the installed capacity of Berezovskaya GRES will be 2,400 MW and the total installed capacity of E.ON Russia will exceed 11 GW, which is 30% higher than before the launch of the investment programme.
